Construction of the new Foggia-Benevento power line. Installation of new tubular poles and removal of the old truss line.
The work took place in the municipality of Benevento, on the line denominated Foggia-Benevento. It was a matter of replacing an old 220KV trussed line with a new 380KV made of tubular steel poles. Both the removal and the installation took place by helicopter. European Air Crane, a service company in the field of helicopter aerial work, wet leased an Erickson S64 helicopter from the US company 'Erickson Inc, to run an electrification service for Terna Rete Italia. Work began on July 2nd and ended July 5th. During this time window, 120 total rotations were performed and 20 tubular poles were installed after removing about 17 old truss structures, covering a total of 10 km. Despite the heat wave that occurred in the specific time frame throughout Italy, the helicopter was able to lift loads up to 7 Metric tons.
